Mamadou Haidara

Mamadou is a bail specialist with Vera’s Greater Justice New York initiative. He works on the Bail Assessment Pilot, a project launched in the Bronx and Queens criminal courts in 2018 to provide arraignment judges with information about a person's ability to pay bail. For the Bail Assessment Pilot, Mamadou is in arraignment court four days a week to receive referrals from defense attorneys in cases where bail is likely to be set. Upon receiving a referral, Mamadou conducts a short interview with the person arrested to find out about their sources of income and financial obligations. Using that information, he then provides an assessment of an amount and the form of bail that the person can afford on the record to the judge.

Before joining Vera, Mamadou worked as a pretrial intern at the New York City Criminal Justice Agency where he notified people who missed their court appearances and arranged for them to return to court. He holds a BA in Criminology from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
