Katie Allen

Katie Ashwill Allen brings 10 years of experience advocating for accessibility and disability inclusion to her role as program associate with Vera's Center on Victimization and Safety (CVS). At Vera, Katie works on the National Resource Center for Reaching Victims (NRC), coordinating the implementation of the project’s language access, accommodations, and inclusion plan. The NRC aims to build the capacity of the crime victims field to successfully identify, reach, and meet the needs of survivors of crime from underserved communities. Katie provides guidance to NRC partners to ensure that their trainings, events, resources, and materials promote access and inclusion for people with disabilities, Deaf people, people who have limited English proficiency, and people from other marginalized communities.

Prior to joining Vera, Katie coordinated a national technical assistance center designed to improve employment for people with disabilities across eighteen states. Katie also served as disability project coordinator at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center to enhance the access and safety of quality services for survivors of sexual violence with disabilities in the Boston area. Throughout this time, Katie conducted accessibility assessments of local businesses with the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities, and monitored accessibility protocols on Boston’s public transportation system.

Katie received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University in 2012 and her Master's in Social Work from the Boston University School of Social Work in 2013.
